In December, Tumblr announced they would no longer allow NSFW content on their platform and would remove all existing adult content. As we discovered, removed meant freeze accounts so they can’t post anything. This was a pretty devastating blow for a lot of people in the adult industry. Though they were purging all year and continued well into the fall, this big one started in July and definitely caused some panic. The good thing is that the accounts that are left are far more likely to be real. The bad news is that because of this big bot purge, Twitter cut way back on the kind of automation that has been allowed. A lot of people started getting their accounts hidden in search, aka. There have been so many changes this year in social media. You are probably sick of hearing about all the crisis and rumors and “fake news” about social. Let’s go over what really happened this year:

Tumblr

This was the big one that rocked the adult industry at the end of 2018. In December, Tumblr announced they would no longer allow NSFW content on their platform and would remove all existing adult content. As we discovered, removed meant freeze accounts so they can’t post anything. This was a pretty devastating blow for a lot of people in the adult industry. Do you think you have been shadowbanned? This term has been floating around a lot. For 99% of the people, you have not been shadowbanned, you are simply the next victim of the updated Twitter search settings.  What is a shadowban? A shadowban is when your account is hidden from keyword, hashtag, and account search. This means that they only way people can see your tweets is if they go to your Twitter profile page. This is like a soft suspension. Typically a shadowban lasts 48-72 hours. You will not be notified when this happens. Officially, Twitter denies that they do this. But there is evidence to the contrary. The writer for the comic Dilber wrote an article about his shadowban likely due to his political tweets.  There are websites out there that will check if you are shadowbanned. These DO NOT WORK. After some of the updated API and algorithm changes, these services will tell almost anybody they are shadowbanned. I did a search for @CNN and they came up as shadowbanned. I did a search for @7_Veils, and we came up as shadowbanned. Neither account is shadowbanned. Some checkers are making notes that accounts may not be shadowbanned, as they are becoming aware of the inaccuracies.  This likely seems like what is happening to you. How you can tell if you are shadowbanned is by changing your settings and searching for yourself. What is actually happening? Everyone on Twitter had a new setting added in privacy and security: “Hide sensitive material in the search.”The default status for this setting is to be checked. This means that the default is for Twitter to hid sensitive content in search. If you are in porn, this means you. The good thing is all you have to do is uncheck this setting. Is My Content Sensitive? You have the option of marking your material as sensitive on Twitter, but this no longer matters for this security update. If you are in porn and are tweeting nude, sexually explicit, or NSFW content, you need to have your account marked as sensitive. This will keep your account safe from other terms of service issues. That being said, even if you don’t have that selected, Twitter may identify your content as sensitive anyway. They are making this identification based on the hashtags you use, the content you share, your history, as well as your followers. If you have a high number of “anonymous” accounts, meaning accounts without first or last names and no URL’s, then your account can be flagged as sensitive even if you are only tweeting photos of kittens and using the hashtag #pussy. If you have a targeted porn audience, you likely have a high number of “anonymous” accounts, which you should. The porn audience on Twitter is typically “anonymous” or “partially anonymous”.  How to Fix It? You need to change the settings on your account.  From a Desktop: 1. Go to settings and privacy in the drop-down menu under your avatar on the upper right-hand side.  2. Once in your settings, go to privacy and safety (on the left side menu). 3. Go to the bottom of the page and under “Safety” you will see a section called “search.” Next to it is a box that says “Hide sensitive content”. Uncheck this box.  4. Save changes.  From a mobile device: 1. Go to twitter.com on your phone, not the app. 2. Open up a search. You can search for anything. 3. Click the gear icon next to the search 4. Uncheck “Hide sensitive content” Twitter does not offer a way to do this from their app, you have to go to the website. f you have any questions on how to increase your reach on Twitter or help with any social media management, please get in touch withlauren@7veils.com. Social Networks TwitterWith over 328 million users on Twitter, it might not be the whale but it is a whale of a social network. Twitter has historically been the most permissive with the content you are allowed to share. Adult content is allowed on Twitter. Pretty much, if it is legal then you are allowed to tweet about it. Twitter also does not require you to be a “friend” of someone in order for them to see your content or speak to them. This allows for much more aggressive strategy than the other networks. Plus, if you like to post a lot then Twitter is your place to be because there is pretty much no such thing as too much tweeting…pretty much. SnapchatThis is where all the younger people are hanging out. Snapchat is not technically permissive of adult content. You are not allowed to share nudes or sexual content on your snap stories. There is a lot of competition in camming. Everywhere you turn there is another post about a camgirl. But despite the competition, cam girls are getting huge followings and using social media to drive tons of customers to their cam shows. But how do you stand out? What can you do to capture part of that traffic?

First, you need to find the networks that will be the best for you.

Social Networks

  1. TwitterWith over 328 million users on Twitter, it might not be the whale but it is a whale of a social network. Twitter has historically been the most permissive with the content you are allowed to share. Adult content is allowed on Twitter. Pretty much, if it is legal then you are allowed to tweet about it.  Posting

Standing out also requires quality content and consistency.

1.Quality Content: I am sure you have seen the girls that tweet and post grainy and out of focus photos. Or their pictures look like an afterthought. Put some effort into your photos. Post photos that are taken in good lighting and are in focus. Participate in the fun trending hashtags like#tittytuesday or #friskyfriday. Share photos of you getting ready for your cam show, or even live broadcast it on Twitter or Facebook. Just make sure to cut it off before you go from SFW to NSFW. Share the link to your cam show when you go live and try to tweet in the middle of the show to say you are on cam.2.Consistency: This is one of the hardest ones for people. Be consistent with your posting. If you have a schedule for your camshow, tweet about your schedule. Let people know when you will be on in advance, then again when you are on, and then again in the middle. The only way to drive people to your cam show is to let them know you are online.

Just like anything, if you are going to do it well you need to understand how it works. Take your time to learn the ropes of the different networks. Research the hashtags you want to use with your posts. Discover the type of content your audience likes and give that to them.
