This month we sat down with Rutger and Tristan founders of Wecamgirls.com one of the line webcam communities largest and most popular community forms. Before we start I want to thank you both for taking the time out of your busy schedules to sit down for this year cam Life Magazine answers questions for our readers.

Bender- Can you tell us a little bit about your forum Wecamgirls.com exactly how did you go about starting a project like this up?

Tristan-WeCamgirls is a community where cam models can talk to their adult business colleagues, without customers looking over their shoulders. You can simply read and learn or talk about business or non-business related topics on the forum. You can also exchange tips and tricks or review all kinds of different cam related businesses. At this moment over 16,000 models have created an account. Besides our busy forum, you can read over 3000reviews (all written by verified models) on various subjects like cam sites (of course), content selling sites, payment providers and many more. What makes this unique is that everything is written from the models perspective.

The idea started in 2011. One day a friend of ours, who is a former webcam girl, talked about her online experiences. When we asked her what she thought of as the most inconvenient thing of being a webcam girl, she said two things. The first one was obvious; She didn’t like the fact that she couldn’t talk to a lot of people about what she was doing for a living. The second thing she said proceeded from the first one and it was a bit of a surprise. Not talking to others about what she did result in boredom.

This information had to settle and then a couple of months later the idea sprang up. We’ve got a lot of experience building (mainstream) communities, what if we build a community website, just for webcam models? There are lots of models and at least some of them might have similar problems.

Bender- Now Wecamgirls.com is one of the first and the largest online forms and communities for the live webcam community how much work went into designing and of course the day-to-day business of running such an endeavor?

Rutger- It is hard to say how much time it took to build WeCamgirls since it is an ever-developing project, but the first site set up took a few months to create (but WeCamgirls has changed a lot since then). We have a very dedicated group of moderators that help with the day to day things, like helping other members and the model verification.

Bender- Obviously in every business in every industry you’re going to have obstacles in hurdles to overcome what would you say your greatest obstacle as business owners in the live webcam Community have been so far?

Rutger- The site startup itself was the hardest part. When you have no content, you get no members and when you have no members you get no new content. So it took about a year to get it properly going, but after that, it became a snowball. It grew faster and faster and it is still growing every day.

Bender- What is the overall goal for Wecamgirls.com?

Rutger-The goal is and always has been to create a friendly environment for webcam models. A safe place to interact, discuss and connect, without customers peeking in. 

Bender- What do you enjoy the most about the live webcam community?

Rutger- If you talk about the live cam community in general, our experience is, that it is a very friendly and amicable niche of the adult industry.

Tristan- If you talk about WeCamgirls itself, the best thing that we get out of it, are messages of appreciation we get. Every week members tell us how happy they are that we’ve created the site and that they are so glad they found it on the internet.

Bender- What do you think the biggest challenge that the wide webcam Community faces as an industry and the community?

Rutger- One of the main big challenges that the webcam industry faces at this moment is legislation. The SESTA stirred up a lot and it might influence the webcam industry as collateral damage. Another big thing is DMCA protection. Models don’t want their vids showing up on all kind of different sites, but the problem here is, that when a specific site was taken down, two new sites pop up.

Bender- If you can change anything about the live webcam community what would it be?

Rutger- That models would be seen more as successful entrepreneurs and that they would get the recognition that they deserve. So technically it is not the industry we would change, but more the people that look at the industry from the “outside”.

Bender- I know you guys have won an Aw Summit award what other milestones have you achieved with this project?

Tristan- The biggest achievement is, that we created a community that is still growing and thriving. Last year we had our 5 year anniversary, which is really awesome. And when we reached 10,000 members at the start of 2017 it really was a big milestone too. We also won the award for best live cam community in 2016 and 2018 at the Live Cam Awards. Especially the first one was amazing since it was the first award we’d won.

Bender-Where do you see Wecamgirls.com as a business in the next five years?

Rutger- WeCamgirls would bigger, better and stronger. However, the success of the site isn’t only up to us. We can build the platform, but our members “make” the site. 

Now, of course, we didn’t originate the concept and you are definitely no strangers to this concept but we hear it can like believe that the live webcam industry is more than just a business or it is a community what are your thoughts on this in your own words?

Bender-Around how many members does Wecamgirls.com have?

Tristan- Over 16,000 models are active on the site

Bender- How long has Wecamgirls.com been operating?

Rutger- Since March 2012

Bender- In your opinion as founders of Wecamgirls.com what do you I think some of the biggest problems that cam models face today?

Rutger- There are a lot of problems that models face nowadays. A lot of them can be solved by information. When you start in the cam business, know where you get yourself into. Learn, build, develop and thrive. There is no such thing as “easy money” and this is also true for the live cam industry.

Bender- Now Tristan I know you recently represented Wecamgirls.com with a presentation for the very first online cam on-line cam sum can you tell us a little bit about this experience?

Tristan- Sure. Thomas is a great host and talking to him feels really natural. I don’t get in the spotlight a lot, but talking about WeCamgirls and the live cam industry was a lot of fun.
